The Renewable Construction Academy Welcomes Pinsent Masons as New Academy Partner to Develop “Contracting Insights for Offshore Wind Projects” Masterclass

7 April 2025 - The Renewable Construction Academy is excited to announce a new partnership with, Pinsent Masons, a leading multinational law firm recognised for its expertise in energy and infrastructure.

Together, the two organisations will develop a specialised two-day course, Contracting Insights for Offshore Wind Projects, covering key contractual topics for large-scale infrastructure projects. Designed and delivered in a masterclass format, this course aims to provide learners with valuable insights, providing knowledge for professionals working in the offshore wind industry.

This course will focus on critical areas such as contracting strategy and structures, managing interfaces on multi-contract projects, design liability and general standards of performance, responsibility for site conditions, defects, and knock for knock indemnities. The course will culminate in a final exam to ensure participants gain a comprehensive understanding of these complex issues, and participants will become accredited by the Renewable Construction Academy receiving a certification recognising their educational achievements.

The core audience for this course includes professionals involved in the negotiation and management of contracts during execution, whether they work in contract, commercial, project, or engineering roles. Understanding risk and how it is addressed in contracts is critical for these roles.

Morten Søjborg, Managing Partner of RECOA, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying,

I have had the pleasure to sit across the table and negotiate contractual terms and conditions with the Pinsent Masons team on many occasions over the years. Through this “hands-on” experience, I know them as a highly competent firm that is driven by quality and commercial outcomes. The fact that a market leading firm such as Pinsent Masons has signed up to be an Academy Partner to the Renewable Construction Academy, gives us a great sense of pride, and underscores the quality and ambitions of our platform, as well as our ability to bring best-in-class learning to the Renewable Energy Industry and our growing community of learners.”

Nicholas Carlin, Construction Partner at Pinsent Masons said,

We’re excited to be working with the RECOA team. We have known a number of individuals from the team for many years and worked alongside them on a number of projects. We’re privileged to now be collaborating on the RECOA platform. The training platform that has been developed to date is second to none. Anyone who is starting out in the industry – and anyone who is already involved but keen to develop their own knowledge - will benefit hugely from the ability to access insights from a variety of experts with different backgrounds and specialities all in one place. It is also an exciting time for offshore wind generally as supply chain arrangements come under additional layers of stress and scrutiny. This masterclass is designed to introduce key issues and considerations and explore solutions and approaches to those in the current market.”

The Contracting Insights for Offshore Wind Projects course will be available in Autumn 2025 to professionals seeking to enhance their expertise in offshore wind contracting and project management.
