Building High-Performance Safety Culture: The Science Blueprint
Specialist Education

Learning Goals
Current Safety Limitations
You'll understand the flaws in how we currently handle safety and why we need to improve these methods for better results. 'You can’t solve problems by using the same thinking that created them.' - Albert Einstein.
Organisational Incident Causation
You'll learn how major accidents can start from the way organisations work, how people think about risk, and decision-making, with the goal to spot warning signs and stop accidents before they happen.
Operationalising Safety Culture
You'll learn how to build and keep a strong safety culture and what knowledge and actions are necessary to make it happen.

About the Safety Culture Specialist Course
The Safety Culture Specialist Course gives you, the learner, the tools to shape a culture that leads to enduring high performance. It provides a roadmap for senior leadership and leaders alike to foster and keep up a high-performance safety culture.
The methods described in the course operationalise safety culture in a way that has never been done before to achieve High Reliability Organisation performance. This approach makes safety prevention a natural part of daily work just like the commercial airlines and nuclear industries (these two industries are deemed to be HRO)
HROs are described as those organisations that:
- Create an operating environment that detects problems early and are always responded to in order to prevent serious incidents.
- Work in high-risk environments with high efficiency.
- Achieve extraordinary safety performance, functioning without serious mishap over long periods of time.
The course brings everyone in the organisation together with easy-to-follow safety strategies, a set of simple safety tactics and new performance measures that collectively result in a high-performance safety culture.
What You Can Expect
The course is broken down into 3 modules.
Each module takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete.
The course follows the journey of a contractor, Great Wind Turbines, and their CEO Richard Wilkins through the contractor QHSE qualification process for the Atlantis Offshore Wind farm project off the southeastern coast of Vietnam and then being blindsided by two serious incidents.
The course takes the learner through their story of transformation to achieve HRO performance. This allows the learner a firsthand experience from the contractor’s perspective.
While this is fictionalised it is based on a real-life large-scale energy infrastructure project. The story arc:
-
Positions learners for success by:
- Clearly articulates gaps with current safety performance,
- Provides a direct line of sight to improvement, and
- Informs decision-making and motivates improvement.
- Achieve extraordinary safety performance functioning without serious mishap over long periods of time.
-
Provides practical information with creating a positively evolving safety culture to achieve HRO performance:
- Focusing on what matters most,
- Consistently executing well on HRO fundamentals, and
- Provision of accountability with a new set of performance measures that meets the scientific criteria to ensure valid and reliable indicators that can be trusted to provide assurance.
-
Adheres to Vroom’s model for taking knowledge into action:
- States what needs to be done,
- Provides the tools, knowledge, and skills necessary to be successful, and
- Delivers material business value.
About our Academy Partner
At Intactix Systems, safety and safety culture are our top priorities. We believe the industry needs a fresh approach to safety, as current practices fall short in meeting modern demands.
Our unique method bridges peer-reviewed science with real-world application, helping clients balance compliance (the “what”) and performance (the “how”). Using our CARE software, clients gain real-time insights into culture maturity, risk profiles, and emergent outcomes, turning critical safety data into high-reliability performance.
Our goal is ZERO serious incidents by 2050. In the renewable energy sector, contractors—responsible for up to 85% of incidents—present a significant challenge. We focus on performance assurance, predictability, and measurable business value to address this issue.
Our three-step approach powers sustainable success:
Baseline: Establish an HRO foundation with new performance metrics.
Improve: Build knowledge and tools for meaningful progress.
Monitor: Drive accountability and guide continuous improvement.
We create high-reliability organizations that excel, leveraging safety for better business outcomes and sustainable, long-term profits.
