RECOA Launches Route Clearance Specialist Course
15 December 2023 - The Renewable Construction Academy (RECOA) is delighted to announce the launch of its latest specialist course, "Route Clearance." Tailored to meet the evolving needs of the offshore wind industry, this course provides professionals with practical expertise in modern route clearance techniques used for buried cables as well as traditional pre-lay grapnel runs (PLGR) to remove seabed debris.
The course showcases real-world studies that address challenges related to route clearance. It aims to prepare onshore managers, offshore representatives, vessel captains, surveyors, and deck crews for successful offshore operations.
Chris Weaver, Senior Instructor, emphasizes the importance of the course for today’s industry and workforce,
"Route Clearance was once considered a simple task, however, with cables increasingly buried deeper, it has become far more complex. This course addresses the intricacies of cable route clearance, emphasizing the importance of safe operations. It equips professionals with the knowledge needed for successful offshore operations, covering crucial aspects such as risk mitigation, environmental considerations, and recovery operations."
In response to this demand, the Renewable Construction Academy (RECOA) has introduced the first-ever industry-specific introductory training course in Korean. This initiative is designed to empower the Korean workforce, enabling them to play a pivotal role in realizing the nation's ambitious offshore wind energy goals.
In conjunction with the course launch, RECOA will host a Round Table event on 19th January 2023, serving as a global industry forum. Seasoned experts, each with a minimum of 15 years' experience, will lead discussions on key topics related to cable route clearance.
Round Table Details:
Title: “Cable Route Clearance – So simple, what could possibly go wrong?”
Date & Time: 19th January 2023, 10:00 GMT / 18:00 Taiwan
Participants in the Round Table will explore…
- How seabed cables have grown, and why we need to remove the out-of-service cables.
- How clearing a route for a new subsea cable has changed.
- How seabed geology influences cable route clearance.
